Your selection resolved to more documents than your plan permits per review, usually because a folder expanded to more files than expected. Remove sources until you are inside the cap, or upgrade the plan.
Tabular review: ask the same questions across many documents
A tabular review asks the same set of questions across many documents in one pass and returns a grid: one row per source, one column per question, and a citation behind every answer. You start one from Review in the case sidebar, and you can also ask Andri in chat to start one for you.
Tabular review is available on every plan. Free plans are capped at a smaller grid rather than blocked.
Run a review
You need at least one source and at least one question. Everything else is optional.
Open the case and click Review in the case sidebar. The builder opens on Review across documents.
Click Add a source. In Add sources, pick from Matter Knowledge Base, Company Knowledge Base, Case law, Matter folders or KB folders, then click Use sources.
Click Add a question and write what you want to know about each source. Type
@inside a question to point it at a specific document.Set Format for that question: Short text for a concise prose answer, Yes / No to force a yes or no with a short rationale, or Extract to pull the literal value or quote. Add a Column header to name the column something shorter than the question.
Repeat for every question you want as a column.
Click Start review.
Cells fill in as they finish, and the run header tracks progress and marks any failures. A single run is allowed up to two hours.
Choose sources
Sources can be individual documents or whole folders, and folders are resolved to the documents inside them when the review runs, not when you pick them.
Documents. Anything in the case knowledge base or the company knowledge base.
Folders. A folder is listed as All in that folder and Expands at run time. Subfolders are included, and only documents that have finished processing are picked up. One folder can contribute at most 500 documents.
Case law. The Case law tab searches published rulings so you can review them alongside your own files. You can also select rulings on the case-law page and use Add to tabular review to send them to a case, either into a new review or into an existing one.
The same document selected twice counts once, so overlapping folders do not produce duplicate rows.
Preview one answer before you run
Use this when you are unsure whether a question is worded well enough to answer a hundred times.
Try one cell runs the first question against the first document and shows you the answer it would produce. It needs at least one concrete document selected, so it does not work on a folder alone.
A preview is a real answer and costs the same as any other cell. It is not a free trial run.
Read and export the results
Open any cell to see the full answer and the sources behind it.
The cell panel shows Answer and Citations. Andri checks every quote against the passages it actually retrieved, and a quote that does not match the source is dropped rather than shown.
Each column has a filter, so you can narrow the grid to the rows whose answer matches a value, or to Yes or No on a yes/no question.
Export downloads the whole grid as CSV or XLSX.
Finished reviews are listed under Reviews on the case and stay available for 90 days.
A review is a point-in-time analysis, not a live dashboard. Completed answers are kept as they were when the review ran and are not refreshed when the case changes.
What you can change after a review finishes
You can grow a review, but you cannot edit or shrink one.
On a finished review you can add another source, add another question, or click Retry failed cells. Click Run review and only the new cells are processed, so answers you already have are neither re-run nor charged again. You can rename a review at any time.
You cannot change the wording of a question that has already run, change its format, or remove a source or a question. To ask a different question, or to analyse a narrower set of documents, start a new review.
How credits are used
Billing is per cell, not per review. One document answered against one question is one billed answer, exactly like sending one message in chat. A review of 40 documents across 5 questions is therefore 200 billed answers, and cells that fail still count because the work was done. Tabular review spend is reported separately from chat on your usage page.
Limits on your plan
Sources and questions are capped per review, and the cap depends on your plan.
Limit | Free | Business |
|---|---|---|
Sources per review | 15 | 500 |
Questions per review | 3 | 25 |
Two ceilings apply on every plan: a single review can process at most 1500 cells in total, and a single folder can contribute at most 500 documents. When a review exceeds a limit it is refused before any work is done, so nothing is charged. It appears as Not started rather than Failed, and your selection is kept.
When a review will not start
This review has more documents than your plan allows
That folder holds too many documents for one selection
A single folder can contribute at most 500 documents. Select a smaller subfolder, or pick the documents individually.
This review is larger than a single run can process
Documents multiplied by questions exceeds the 1500-cell ceiling for one review. Split the work into more than one review, either by document set or by question set. Running it again will not help.
This review needs more credits than you have left
The projected cost exceeds what your firm has left for this billing period. Nothing has been charged. Reduce the selection, wait for the period to reset, or ask an administrator to top up credits, then click Run it again.
There is nothing to review yet
The folders you selected are empty, or none of their documents have finished processing. Wait for processing to complete, add documents, or select documents individually, then run it again.
