Troubleshooting

Why is the text in my document incorrect or unreadable?

Andri AI uses OCR (optical character recognition) to extract text from your uploaded documents. When the OCR produces incorrect data or garbled text, it's usually because the source file's image quality is too low for accurate text extraction.

Before uploading: Open your document and check if you need to zoom in to read the text comfortably. If you do, the OCR will have the same difficulty.

Common causes

  • Low-resolution scans — Files scanned below 300 DPI often produce blurry text that OCR misreads

  • Poor image quality — Faded text, shadows, or skewed pages make character recognition unreliable

  • Small or stylized fonts — Ornate typefaces or tiny print can confuse automated text extraction

  • Multi-generation copies — Photocopies of photocopies degrade text clarity with each generation

Troubleshooting steps

1. Verify document clarity

Open your PDF or image file at 100% zoom. If the text looks blurry or requires zooming to read, re-scan or re-export the document at a higher resolution (300 DPI minimum recommended).

2. Re-upload a higher-quality version

If you have access to the original document, create a new scan or export with these settings:

  • Scan at 300 DPI or higher

  • Use black-and-white or grayscale mode for text-only documents

  • Ensure the page is flat and well-lit (for photos/scans)

  • Save as PDF rather than JPG when possible to preserve text quality

Delete the low-quality file from your case and upload the improved version. See Uploading Files to Your Case for upload instructions.

3. Check for specific errors

Review the extracted text for patterns like:

  • Misread letters (0 vs O, 1 vs l, 8 vs B)

  • Random special characters where none exist

  • Completely missing sections of text

These indicate OCR struggled with specific areas of your document. A clearer scan will typically resolve these issues.

If the OCR consistently misreads critical information like names or case numbers, double-check any AI-generated summaries or analysis that reference those details.
